Atlantic City Casinos Betting on Skill-Based Gambling

In an attempt to lure in millennials, three Atlantic City casinos, Bally’s, Caesars and Harrah’s will be introducing a first-person shooter called “Danger Arena”, a skill-based game that combines elements of video games, entertainment and gambling.

NJ Gaming Commission OK Skill-Based Casino Game

Having received final approval from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), Danger Arena can already be seen on casino floors. According to the CBS Philly news website, the game debuted at Harrah’s casino on Wednesday, and as reported, a 21-year-old from Mullica Township was one of the first players to try out their luck in the game.

They wouldn’t have run into any issues receiving approvals, as the Gaming Commission would no doubt have been wanting gaming manufacturers to submit innovative products, as it has witnessed first hand gambling revenues at Atlantic City casinos drop by more than 50% in the past decade.

Players of the new Danger Arena game will have 45 seconds to shoot enemies, and can win between $1 and $5000. To play, gamblers need to bet between 50 cents and $20.

More Casinos Will Roll Out the New Game If It’s Received Well

Danger Arena developer, GameCo, expects the new skill-based game to be introduced in more casinos over the next six-months, and Atlantic City isn’t the only market they will wager on either. GameCo has been in talks with casinos in other US states, including Connecticut, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

It still remains unclear just how easy it will be to win money playing this innovative skill-based video game. With over 10,000 maps, you’d imagine the difficulty level would be harder for some maps, and this would make Danger Arena less attractive to advantage players.

“We have a patent on the math model that controls the game and it works a lot like blackjack – even the best blackjack or poker player in the world sometimes gets a deal that’s not going to let them win the highest possible payout,” GameCo CEO Blaine Graboyes explains.

Nonetheless, even if it is being considered a video slot machine, it’s a skill-based game, and if you’re good at first-person shooters, the chances of winning would be better than other games of chance found on the casino floor.
